A few weeks ago, I received the call I’d been waiting for – my file has been allocated to a social worker! Of course it played out in a frustrated, straight-out-of-the-movies kinda way. I was on the phone already and … Continue reading

OK, so I didn’t see you in December like my last post loosely committed to. I have been a slack blogger, but I’m not going to beat myself about it. December is end of work crazy, Christmas crazy, crazy crazy. … Continue reading
So long, farewell NaBloPoMo!

I made it! Today is the last day of NaBloPoMo and I made it through and only missed one post. Did you notice? Last Friday. I’m relaxed about it. Here are some thoughts on the challenge of contributing something to … Continue reading

Last week, a friend was sharing a story about an email she had received from a major charity organisation that had moved her to contribute to their Christmas appeal. It was a communication about a young boy who had no … Continue reading

Two more days to go of NaBloPoMo! Woot! I’ve only missed one day so far. It’s getting trickier, but I’m still hanging in there. Did I mention that I am working hard and being very social?! Yeah. First world problems. … Continue reading
Sunday thankfulness #3
This week I’ve had many wondrous moments. In no particular order -
Corporate wine and cheese night – this was a fancy event that was made even fancier when we realised, upon arrival, that we were in the VIP area where NO QUEUEING FOR CHEESE WAS REQUIRED. I can’t express how warm and fuzzy this made me feel. Apparently we were supposed to be ‘tasting’ the wine in the traditional sense, but no-one really got that memo. I do like a good corporate gig and I always keep myself nice, do the necessary chatting to important executives and indulge in the good things on offer. Keep me in mind next time you have ace seats to, you know, the tennis. Or anything.
Movies – I’ve seen THREE films at the cinema in the last 8 days.
- Contagion – had rave reviews, but I found it an empty disaster film, despite its hot cast, with an anti-union sentiment, which rankled myself and my forner union organiser buddy who was watching it with me. Even the gorgeous Marion Cotillard, who I could watch for hours on end, had a bad haircut. Disappointing.
- We Need to Talk About Kevin – this was selected for my monthly movie date night with Grandpa. I enjoyed it, but was interested to note the positioning of the film in contrast to the book. The book stirred debate about motherhood, bonding and the unspoken battles when you question your love for your child. The film worked on the ‘this kid is a psychopath’ angle. Nature versus nurture. I may have had a nightmare that night.
- Moneyball – fabulous film about American baseball teams and an alternative method of team selection based on statisitcs that was introduced to the Oakland A’s back in the early part of last decade. I highly recommend it.
Gin and tonics – enough said.
What are you thankful for this week?

An impetus for resurrecting this blog, after shutting it down hastily after I was recognised in my permanent care education group by a fellow participant, was a flurry of people in my wider social circle seeking me out to ask … Continue reading
Squeeze post
Today is a scramble day where posting for NaBloPoMo is a real squeeze. I’ve recently committed to ‘saying yes’ more often to social engagements and this is not neccessarily compatible with my one-post-a-day commitment. Alas, I’m here and something small will be contributed to the blogosphere today.
Last night I saw We Need to Talk About Kevin at one of Melbourne’s more famous cinemas. And, no – I did not finish the book in time. My life got in the way.
This morning, the cat jumped in the shower immediately after I hopped out and then jumped all over my bed with wet paws. He then climbed into a bag I was trying to fill with shoes I want to return to a store. He may be growing up, but he is still my exhaustingly cheeky kitteh.
Mangoes are my favourite summer indulgence. For the last few weeks, I’ve tried to have one for breakfast most mornings, at work.
Today, my Christmas present to myself arrived. I only have two cookbooks and have wanted The Cook’s Companion for a long time. Readings currently have a countdown to Christmas with a daily bargain book and on the very first day it was this one!
